DO YOU NEED A DIVORCE SPECIALIST?

PRE Separation Abuse

The abuser controls your time and movement, using emotional and psychological abuse to isolate you from loved ones—including pets. They may manipulate you throughout, deploying tactics like forced dependence, sexual coercion, paranoia, and even isolation from support systems, including family and friends. This often leads to feelings of helplessness and entrapment during a period of strategic "niceness."

Post Seperation Abuse

Even after separation, the abuse may continue through harassment, stalking (often with the aid of technology), and manipulation. Abusers can use children or legal systems to disempower and marginalize the victim. They may resort to threats, intimidation, and continued monitoring to control the victim and their loved ones, including pets and property.

Narcissistic Abuse

Narcissistic abusers rely on tactics like gaslighting, belittling, and relentless criticism. They never accept responsibility, instead projecting their faults onto others. This abuse is characterized by a lack of empathy, an inflated sense of self-importance, and manipulative behaviors such as emotional blackmail and love bombing.

Economic Abuse

Including preventing the victim from having access to money or assets, refusing to contribute to bills, creating debt for which victims are liable, and taking them to court vexatiously, so legal proceedings drain their cash and assets.

LEGAL DISCLAIMER

Disclaimer: As a certified high-conflict divorce specialist, my mission is to educate healthy, protective co-parents who are experiencing post-separation abuse about its patterns of behaviors to help them respond with strength, knowledge and strategy in contested custody cases and co-parenting situations. While many factors, social circumstances and mental conditions contribute to patterns of abuse, survivors find the patterns of cruelty and control characteristic of Cluster B personality disorders, such as narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), borderline personality disorder (BPD) and antisocial personality disorder, especially relatable. I have professional and lived experiences with domestic violence and post-separation abuse, but I am not qualified to give legal advice or make diagnoses. While I am guided by the belief that children's rights to emotional and physical well-being should trump individual parental rights regardless of gender, studies show that domestic violence is a gendered crime.
